The artist has given the full amount of his £25k Mercury Prize prize money to the Music Venues Trust, which works to save the UK's grassroots music venues.

The star was awarded the cheque on October 16 as his latest record his work was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages had in his initial steps.

"I personally would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the shows I played around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated the artist. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports independent venues.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist 38 grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation assisted venues that were confronting imminent closure due to issues arising from flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted monetary aid in modernizing facilities and gear that helped artists and fans.

"The notion that money from shows in major spaces supports the independent spots, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his honor prize money to charitable organizations.

In the band won the trophy in the year 1996 for their record their work, lead singer Cocker stated that the act would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, rapper and singer Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across a few organizations, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I gave a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed better apparatus," the artist shared with the media.

In recent years, the band donated their winnings to the local youth club that developed their act, alongside other local music groups.

And winners that year they donated their winnings to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success impacted somebody else's life."

Last week, the trust revealed it had saved two small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into local control.

The first in Southampton and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership scheme, which is backed by a national body and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
